Adopt a Monarch Butterfly

The Friends of Las Vegas NWR have launched "Mission Fly Away," our effort to help conserve the dwindling Monarch butterfly population. "Mission Fly Away" provides Monarch chrysalises to local schools and teaches students about the importance of these butterflies while giving them the opportunity to release the butterflies once they emerge.

In addition to participating in education and outreach activities, we need volunteers to help us promote and manage this program. If you are passionate about conservation and have strong organization and management skills, this is a great opportunity to make a difference in saving a species from extinction while promoting conservation values to our youth.

For $7, you can adopt a monarch butterfly that will emerge from its chrysalis at a local school, be tagged for identification in the field, and released to the great migration. We will keep you up to date on the program as the season progresses, and the butterfly will thank you in its little thoughts.
